The Town of Dedham names roads when more than one dwelling is off the same driveway. These roads are still considered private, but proper addressing helps emergency services in the event they are needed.
Typically, property owners of the road are permitted to name their own road, however final approval lies with the Selectboard. If all property owners on the road are in agreement with a name and it is considered acceptable by the Board, the requested name will be used. In the event all property owners can't come to an agreement, the Board will make the decision. To indicate agreement to a proposed name, the below form needs to be completed and submitted to the Town Office by all property owners on the road. The form can be dropped off or emailed.
The words Road, Street, and Avenue are reserved for public ways. Private ways can end with any other designation, such as Way, Path, Drive, etc.
